SmartFTP v1.1
Add the features of an FTP program to your site with this web
based FTP.
Unlike many FTP CGIs who only imitate an FTP server, SmartFTP really connects to any FTP in the world! It does not
only display files on the same server the CGI is installed on, but opens a real FTP
connection. It lets you view files and browse an FTP, all on your web site with your
design (colors, links, ad banners, etc...). It even has the basic features of an FTP
program, such as deleting, renaming, making new directories, and more. Plus, some extra
features most FTP programs don't even offer: Creating and editing any file (such as HTML
or Text), which makes things faster and easier than using a seperate editing program for
files.Advantages (why use this instead of FTP software on your computer?):
- Not everyone knows how to use FTP software.
- Not all web browsers connect to FTPs, and none have as many features as SmartFTP.
- Customized look. Why lose your visitors when you send them to an FTP to download files?
With SmartFTP they stay on your site. People will connect to an FTP while viewing whatever
else you want them to see, just like if they were viewing any other of your pages.

- Window pops up with message while directory contents are being listed and goes away when
it's done (using Javascript). This let's people know something is happening if the FTP is

Features new in version 1.1:
- User/member accounts can be given to others with limited access to a certain FTP address.
- Fixed "nlst not understood" problem the CGI had on some servers (now it should
truly connect to all FTPs).
- Tool to check if server supports a certain custom FTP command.
- Hostname and other info is now remembered and automatically inserted into the form for
you each time (using Cookies).
- Log kept of activity (time and details of FTP connections made).
SmartFTP now uses Version Update Technology!
The Net::FTP Module is required for SmartFTP to work (most server's already have
this, if not, ask your web host to install it).
